- He was born Jimmie Fewell in Hockerville, OK, in 1926. He died in 2003.
- He was influenced by the music of Bob Wills, Barney Kessel, and Charlie Christian.
- He changed his named to Jimmie Rivers after a local man expressed distaste for the name Fewell.
- He was half-Native American. His band would often play in Indian headdresses.
- In 1958, his band took residency at the 23 Club in Brisbane, CA for 6 years backing greats like Lefty Frizzell and Ernest Tubb. This album represents the only recordings that remain of his own band’s songs. Hoots and hollers abound.
